Sighnaghi Wine Tour – A Day of Wine, and an Evening of Real Hospitality

Eat This! Tours Signature Tour.
Our Best Exclusive Tours

Departing Tbilisi, this is a day built around 8,000 years of winemaking tradition and the people still living it every day. Vines & Villages is an all-inclusive, small-group tour deep into Kakheti, Georgia’s wine heartland – historic charm, artisan winemaking, and more food and wine than you’ll know what to do with.

Across the day you’ll taste 10 or more wines at three carefully chosen wineries, moving between traditional qvevri and more contemporary techniques. Lunch is a multi-course wine pairing menu showcasing modern Georgian cuisine. In the evening, it’s a family supra – a traditional Georgian feast at a winemaker’s own table, with their organic, handcrafted wine and a tamada (toastmaster) leading the toasts. In between, there’s Sighnaghi itself: a hilltop town Georgians call the City of Love, worth wandering just for the stunning views.

Premium tastings, a properly indulgent lunch and dinner, and no shortage of wine – this is Georgian hospitality the way it’s meant to be experienced.

Note: pickup from Sighnaghi requires a taxi transfer. A modified winter version of this tour runs December to March

Tour Highlights: Sighnaghi Wine Tour (Kakheti)

  • Fully-indulgent, premium authentic, all-Inclusive food & wine tasting tour with lunch & dinner. Perfect introduction to Georgian wine. Large pours and refills (optional).
  • Visit a high-class family owned, independent vineyard and "Marani" (Georgian wine cellar) in the Manavi microzone, taste traditional qvevri (amphorae) alongside European style wines made with Georgian grapes.
  • Indulge in a 4 to 5 course wine pairing lunch, crafted by the in-house chef, presenting elevated, modern Georgian cuisine. Tailored to your group size and dietary preferences.
  • Meet an artisan winemaker (<15,000 bottles total per year) at his marani and taste his small-batch natural qvevri wines.
  • Explore the cobbled streets of the picturesque mountain village of Sighnaghi. Walk the city wall (the longest fortifications in Georgia) for awe-inspiring views of the Alazani valley and Caucasus mountains.
  • Participate in a supra (Georgian family feast). Explore unique homemade artisan wines and specialist local, homemade dishes while being introduced to the culture of the tamada (toastmaster). It's more than just a meal; it's a vibrant introduction of Georgia's cherished culinary traditions.

The above summary relates to scheduled tours. For private Sighnaghi wine tour bookings, this itinerary can run on any date year-round, under 18s (with guardian), groups larger than 7 etc. Book a private tour. Surcharges may apply.

* Note: The evening supra may combine 2 groups. The tradition of the feast can actually work better with a larger group, in our opinion. Typically this is less than 12 guests total, a maximum of 15 occasionally. Often it is still a max of 8.

This has to be one of the best Wine and Food tours we have done. We got to feast on amazing Georgian cuisine and it was delicious!

What Our Guests Are Saying

Vines & Villages Tour
I’ve lost count of the number of wine tours I’ve done all over the world. I did the Signagi wine tour and it was without doubt the best wine tour I’ve done. Relative to other wine tours from Tbilisi it was an expensive tour but by the time we got back to Tbilisi we understood why. It’s not really comparable to other wine tours as it includes a lot more. Vines & Villages Tour

From artistically presented modern Georgian cuisine with fine wines, to toasting to the ancestors of Georgia with Bacho the winemaker in his wine cellar while eating the khachapuri his wife prepared for us in their home kitchen. All in one day! Eat This! Tours more than delivered on the authenticity (and quantity + quality!) they promised. I am now recommending their tours to everyone I know going to Georgia. Why are your tours quite a high price?

Our premium tours are priced higher than budget or mid-range competitors due to our dedication to exclusivity, quality, authenticity, and fair compensation to guides and small family winemakers.

Our philosophy on price is: What is better value for money, a unique boutique dinner with premium wine, or eating a supermarket sandwich on a park bench with a nice view? Either experience could get a 5 star review, if the quality meets the price tag and exceeds your personal expectations.

Although we understand our prices may not suit everyone, we guarantee premium experiences surpassing cheaper alternatives, to which our past guests overwhelmingly give 5 star reviews and agree are genuinely worth the price tag. Learn why, below.

FAQ

Is this tour weather dependent?

No. The tour runs in all weathers but note that if it is heavy rain or snow, a visit to walk the walls in Signagi may not be much fun, so you can opt to spend more time elsewhere.

Level of physical activity? What to expect from this tour?

Taste Georgia’s 8,000 Year Wine History Surrounded By Vines & Mountains In The Kakheti Wine Region. Wine Tour to Signagi and surrounding areas and villages. Indulgent amounts of food!

  • You are ready to explore Georgian natural wine but don’t want to push your boundaries too far.
  • Low level of physical activity. We mainly hang out at wineries and visit a few essential historic sites.
  • Fast-paced trip packing lots of wine, fun, and activities into 1 day. For a more relaxing trip, we suggest staying overnight in wine country (2 day trips)
  • More food and wine than you are expecting! We are not a typical generic wine tour. Prepare to indulge.

What currency do I need to bring?

The only currency accepted by vendors for buying wine/gifts etc. to take home, is the national currency GEL. You can get this from any ATM and your driver will be happy to stop at one.

Purchase of our tours is normally in GEL based on the current exchange rate for the USD pricing of the tours. We’ll advise you of the exchange rate by email shortly before the tour date.

How does pricing work, and could my price change after I book?

Exact Pricing: Rates depend on group size and date. Use the booking widget to select guest numbers, dates etc. on any tour page to calculate your exact per-person price.

“From” Prices & Discounts: “From” rates indicate the lowest starting price. Listed shared tour prices are non-negotiable, and no further discounts are offered.

Shared Tours: If remaining spots fill before departure, your per-person rate may decrease. Otherwise, your checkout price is final and is the MAX price you will pay (sell-outs cannot be guaranteed).

Private Tours: Widget rates are final unless you request custom itineraries, alternate pickups, or drop-offs (fees are communicated in advance). Private groups larger than 16 sometimes qualify for special lower pricing.

How are your tours priced?

We keep groups small – a maximum of seven people on scheduled tours – and take you to independent, family-run wineries rather than large commercial operations built for tour bus volume. Everything is included: all the food, all the wine tastings, no pay-as-you-go extras once you’re on the road.

The price you pay is what it actually costs us to run the tour – guides, vendors, wineries, all paid fairly – plus a margin of 10% to 30% to cover marketing, office staff, and to keep the business running. That margin varies by group size and tour type. On tours with only two guests, we cover the shortfall ourselves rather than pass the cost on, because we’d rather our guides stay busy and paid than leave small groups without a tour.

We price as transparently as we can, and we pay guides and winemakers above the going rate to keep working with the best people in the region.

What are the dietary options on this tour? Is vegetarian possible?

Yes, with advance notice. The standard inclusions contain pork or veal, dairy, walnuts and gluten.

Vegetarian options are available (and popular in Georgia!) at all main meal stops but must be requested at the time of booking, as family hosts prepare food specifically for the group.

Vegan options are possible but a bit more limited as Georgian cuisine can be dairy heavy. Khinkali, on some not all of our tours (check specific inclusions for this tour), has a vegetarian (cheese) or vegan (mushroom) filling option by advanced request.

Vegan + Gluten Free as a combined need of a single individual is essentially impossible to cater for as this would restrict you to essentially eating a few vegetable dishes our small home cooks are not able to cater for something this limited unfortunately.

If you are full celiac (not just gluten intolerant) we do not have the scope to guarantee protection against cross-contamination in small home kitchens. It’s better not to book the tour if you would have severe reactions to gluten if any of your food accidentally had gluten in. Regular gluten-free is absolutely no problem though you will miss out on Khinkali and Khachapuri, Georgia’s two national dishes, we can’t offer gluten-free alternatives to this though we can sometimes substitute Khachapuri with Mchadi which is a west Georgian corn bread

If you have a serious nut allergy that could result in anaphylactic shock or other serious effects please ensure you bring an epi pen with you on the tour please ensure you notify us at time of booking that your walnut allergy is that serious and please advise the guide at the start of your tour where the epipen is and any instructions they may need on using it – or who else accompanying you would be responsible for using it. Walnuts are one of the primary foodstuffs in Georgian cuisine. We absolutely can cater easily for those who cannot eat walnuts. There is plenty other food to eat. But small cross-contamination risk is sometimes possible and cannot be avoided so it is essential that you are prepared for this.

Why don't you visit Bodbe Convent on this tour?

You’ll probably see on all budget sightseeing tour itineraries, and most lists of “things to do in Kakheti”, that Bodbe is normally included. Why is this?

  • Entry is free.
  • It’s an important religious landmark of Georgia.
  • It’s 10 minutes from Signagi, so makes for an easy extra stop to bulk out sightseeing tours.

Why we don’t go?

  • It’s very touristy, during the summer the parking area can have multiple big bus tours arrive at once.
  • There are religious sites everywhere in Georgia, Bodbe is historically important (not so much as Jvari though), but visually (in terms of landmark photos) not as good as many others.
  • Our tours are more focused on grass-roots culture, food, wine, and some very scenic photo stops. We don’t need to bulk out the tour with standard tourist stops unless they are real wow factor places (like Signagi). We’ve never had any guest EVER say “Bodbe was the cultural highlight” of any of our trips – or even that it was anything but the least interesting stop of the whole trip. So, we listened, and we leave more time for meeting winemakers, and learning about the culture first-hand, without the tourists.

What is your cancellation policy?

Information on cancellation and refund policy is here: https://eatthistours.com/terms-conditions-of-service/

Can under 18's join this tour? What do I need to know?

Our shared group tours are strictly adults-only (18+). We enforce this for two simple reasons:

  • The Group Dynamic: Many guests choose our wine tours specifically for an adult-only environment where they can relax without worrying about censoring themselves around children.

  • An Unpredictable Environment: Wine flows freely on these day trips, and we cannot predict how other adult guests will behave after a few glasses. We want to avoid any situation where parents feel uncomfortable with the environment.

If you are traveling with anyone under 18, you must book a private tour. This ensures your family has your own private vehicle, though please note that because we have strict booking times with our partner wineries, the tour schedule itself remains fixed.

Please use the price calculator via the “Book Now” button to see exact private tour rates for your family group.

How private is your private tour?

Private tours guarantee:

  • Exclusive transport: Your own private vehicle, entirely unshared.
  • Dedicated guide: A private guide focused solely on your group.
  • Itinerary flexibility: Freedom to make minor adjustments during the day. However, since wineries and meals are booked for fixed times, last-minute changes may not be accommodated, and you will still be responsible for full payment.
  • Personalised hosting: Individual attention at each location from the winemaker or host.
  • Private tables: Your own separate space or table for every meal and tasting. (Note: On rare occasions, winery cellar tours may be combined with another group due to winery operational limits beyond our control.)

Private tours do not guarantee:

  • Exclusive winery access: The winery remains open to the public. Unless you book a high-cost private event to close the entire facility, other guests may be on-site or in the same room, but your specific tasting and table will remain strictly private.
  • The winemaker as host at every stop: We aim for a “meet the winemaker” experience (often including a hosted meal) at a minimum of one winery per day trip, which succeeds on over 90% of our tours. However, we cannot guarantee winemaker availability in every instance due to potential illness or scheduling conflicts.

How much luggage can I bring on the tour?

Most vehicles can fit a maximum of 1 large suitcase (hold size) and 1 small additional bag (cabin size) per person on the tour. However, if every single guest on a tour brings this amount of luggage and every seat on the tour is full, it is not always possible to fit everyone’s bags. As we primarily offer day tours, then typically not every guest on the tour needs to bring luggage. However, on our multi-day tours, sometimes all guests do have this amount of luggage.

If you believe you will have this amount of luggage or more, then it’s useful to mention this in your booking message so that we are aware. If it appears all guests will have a significant amount of luggage on the tour, we can make sure the van has a roof rack or additional larger trunk space.

Suitcases can be left safely in the vehicle throughout the duration of the tour, though for overnights we recommend taking them into your hotel. We do not offer insurance/liability on baggage left in the vehicle, but you are going to wine country. The crime rate is incredibly low. Either way, we suggest, if you have valuable items inside your luggage, that you carry them in a small bag with you if you are concerned. Thus far, we’ve never had anything stolen from a tour van in the history of the company as of 2026.

What is the difference between a Superior and a Signature tour?

Both options offer a premium, all-inclusive look at authentic Georgian food and wine culture. To use a simple hospitality analogy: our Superior tours are like booking a beautifully appointed, quality room at a top-tier boutique hotel, while our Signature tours are like upgrading to that hotel’s top-floor suite. (Please note this is just a metaphor for the level of inclusions – overnight accommodation is not included in our day trips)

Here is how the two package levels break down:

  • Superior All-Inclusive Tours: This is our high-grade baseline package. Operating in comfortable, modern, air-conditioned minivans or minibuses with careful drivers, these small-group tours (maximum 15 guests) feature highly curated stops, expert guiding, and a substantial fully inclusive meal (with many routes including lunch and dinner). You get a complete, generous, and uncompromised premium experience. Focused on 1-day and half-day trips.
  • Signature All-Inclusive Tours: These are our landmark, deeply indulgent flagship itineraries (spanning 1 to 3 days). They command a higher price because they scale down the group size to a maximum of just 8 guests for a highly intimate atmosphere. They always include both lunch and dinner every day, a more indulgent selection of food and wine tastings, and focus on exclusive, direct hosting from the winemakers themselves.

Premium Authentic vs. “Luxury”
There is a distinct line between our Premium Authentic experiences and artificial luxury. A luxury approach in Georgia typically prioritises styled, highly modernised chateaus designed to project a polished “luxury identity,” paired with cost-prohibitive VIP vehicles that drive up prices without adding genuine substance. Our Premium Authentic approach focuses entirely on the Real Georgia – with occasionally just a taste of the more modern for balance. We pair modern, comfortable, air-conditioned transport, careful drivers, and elevated authentic food and wine. We focus on genuine hospitality rather than venues that just look fancy on the surface. Sitting down with a winemaker at their family table to hear them personally explain their wines feels far more premium authentic than any high-end, modern chateau restaurant meal.

If I book a Superior Tour, am I getting a basic or scaled-back experience?
Never basic. We do not offer low-cost, mass-market commercial tours. Every single itinerary we run is built from the ground up to be a top-tier package. With a Superior tour, you still get well-kept, comfortable transport, a dedicated expert guide, top-quality food, and exceptional authentic wines all day long. If a Signature tour is out of your budget, the Superior tour still delivers a generous, uncompromised premium experience – just a little shorter, less indulgent, and hence less expensive.

How do I book this tour?

You book it directly on this page. Scroll to the booking widget, select your date and the number of guests, and you will see a live price straight away. Booking takes about a minute and is confirmed online immediately. There is no need to email or message us first.

How do I check which dates are available?

The booking widget on this page shows live availability. Open the date picker and any date you can select is a date this tour is running with seats still free. Dates that are full or not running cannot be selected. Availability updates as bookings come in, so the calendar on this page is always the accurate source.

Prices are per person and depend on the size of your group, so smaller groups pay a little more per person. Full pricing is also set out in the Pricing section of this page.

Tourism FAQs

What is the difference between this tour and the Wake Up In Wine Country 2-day tour?

This is a 1-day tour covering Sighnaghi and the surrounding Kakheti area, with at least 10 wines across three winery stops including a multi-course wine pairing lunch and an evening mini-supra with a tamada. The 2-day tour covers more of Kakheti, stays overnight in the Telavi area, adds the khinkali class, the qvevri builder visit, Alaverdi Monastery, and the Telavi market, and includes 20 or more wines. If you want more time, more wine variety, and a slower pace across two days, the 2-day tour is the one to choose.

How many wines will we taste and what types can we expect?

At least 10 wine types across the day, typically more. The first stop includes a side-by-side comparison of the same grape made in qvevri and European steel tank style. The artisan cellar visit includes 3 to 5 natural qvevri wines. The evening mini-supra includes 3 wines from a micro-producer making fewer than 10,000 bottles per year. Wine servings are large – this is not a sip-and-go tasting.

What is the Supra and will we actually meet the winemaker?

The Supra is a traditional Georgian feast hosted at a winemaker’s family home, led by a tamada (toastmaster) who guides traditional toasts while you eat home-cooked food and drink the family’s own wine. The winemaker is present on approximately 90% of tours. On the rare occasions they cannot make it due to other commitments, a family member who knows the wines hosts in their place.

What food is included and how much of it?

Lunch is a 4 to 5 course wine pairing menu with elevated modern Georgian cuisine prepared by an in-house chef – 4 courses for groups of 2 to 3 guests, 5 courses for groups of 4 to 7. Dinner is a home-cooked traditional spread at the family winery mini-supra with free-flowing artisan wine. Both are fully included in the price, and you should expect indulgent amounts of food throughout the day. The standard menu contains pork or veal, dairy, walnuts and gluten; vegetarian alternatives are available by advance request.

What is Sighnaghi and how long do we spend there?

Sighnaghi is a hilltop village that was King Erekle II’s summer retreat, with cobbled streets, panoramic views of the Caucasus mountains, and the longest fortification walls in Georgia. On this stop you walk the cobbled streets and part of the city walls. After the Sighnaghi stop the artisan winery cellar visit also takes place in the area before the group departs for the evening supra.

Can I be picked up or dropped off in Sighnaghi?

Pickup from Sighnaghi is possible via a taxi transfer to meet the group (around 90 GEL, which we can arrange). Drop-off in Sighnaghi at the end of the day depends on the final winery stop – full details are in the Pickup/Drop-off section above.

What is included in the price and what will I need to pay for separately?

Included: the full wine pairing lunch, dinner at the mini-supra with free-flowing wine, all tastings (at least 10 wines), water, entry fees to all locations, and pickup and drop-off within central Tbilisi. Excluded: tips (suggested 90 GEL per group per day, optional), travel insurance, and any products you choose to buy to take home such as wine or souvenirs.

What if I am not staying in central Tbilisi - can I still get picked up?

Pickup is included within the central Tbilisi area – check the pickup location map in the pickup section of this page. If you are outside that area, you would need to take a taxi to a central meeting point and our team will confirm the exact spot. In some cases where there are multiple pickups spread far apart, we may ask you to take a taxi to a meeting point even within the free area, in which case we rebate the taxi cost.

Will the evening supra be just our group, or shared with other guests?

The evening supra may combine two groups, with a typical total of up to 12 guests and occasionally up to 15. Outside peak season you may find the supra is just your group, but this is not guaranteed unless we have confirmed it in your booking. If you need a private supra, contact our team before booking – it may be possible to arrange, though an additional cost may apply to cover seats that cannot be filled from other bookings.

What grape varieties will we taste on this tour?

You can expect to encounter Rkatsiteli, Khikhvi, Mtsvane and Saperavi across the tastings. On some tours you may also taste Tsolikouri, Kisi, Ojaleshi, or on rare occasions Simonaseuli. The exact varieties depend on what the wineries have available on the day. At the first winery stop you will taste the same grape made in both qvevri and European steel tank style, side by side.
