Kakheti: Premium Wine, Historic Signagi, and a True Mini-Supra (Feast).

Eat This! Tours Superior Tour.
All-Inclusive Experiences

All-inclusive max 15 pax tour into the heart of Kakheti. Skip the crowded bus tours for a premium wine tasting & light lunch at a scenic independent winery. Explore Sighnaghi’s walls followed by a “mini-supra” (feast) with home-made dishes & a local Toastmaster.

Modern vs. Ancient: The Style Comparison

Your day begins at a family-owned commercial winery to see how contemporary Georgian winemaking fuses ancestral tradition with modern technology. You will taste wines made from Georgian endemic grape variety side-by-side: one made in a traditional clay qvevri, and the other using modern European stainless-steel methods. This side-by-side tasting is the single best way to understand exactly how the clay vessel shapes the flavor and character of the wine. A light lunch of modern Georgian cuisine accompanies the tasting, followed by a guided walk through the wine cellar (marani).

Sighnaghi & The City Walls

We continue to the hilltop town of Sighnaghi, an 18th-century fortified outpost established by King Erekle II. You will have time to walk the cobbled streets and explore the historic stone ramparts, which are the longest defensive walls in Georgia, while taking in clear views across the Alazani Valley toward the Caucasus mountains. It is also an ideal spot to look for local handicrafts and souvenirs from regional artisans.

Bodbe Monastery

A brief stop at Bodbe, one of Georgia’s most significant cultural and religious sites. We will take a short walk through the exceptionally peaceful gardens and touch on the history of Saint Nino and the 4th-century Christianization of the country.

The Ritual: Mini-Supra & Tamada Toasts

The day concludes with a mini-supra, offering a relaxed insight into the traditional Georgian feast. Hosted at a family artisan winery, you will experience the core of this dining custom as your Tamada (toastmaster) leads a couple of traditional toasts, accompanied by free-flowing artisan wine.

The Food: Authentic, home-made village staples including Mtsvadi (pork skewers grilled over dry grapevines) and fresh, warm Khachapuri.

The Setting: A relaxed, non-restaurant environment right by the family’s wine cellar, shifting to outdoor dining when the weather permits.

Please note: The Tamada is typically the winemaker, but we cannot guarantee their personal availability every day of the year. On rare occasions, a close family member or our expert guide will step into the role to lead the toasts. For a guaranteed, extended supra experience, please view our VIP itineraries.

This tour is part of our affordable all-inclusive range of tours. If you are looking for a fukly over-indulgent day in the true Georgian style, then consider our famous signature Signagi Vines & Villages tour instead, smaller groups, more exclusive experience, more premium authentic style – and a lot more wine & food.

This was hands down one of the best tours I’ve ever experienced, and I’ve been telling everyone I know about it since returning home.

What Our Guests Are Saying

Hotsyd22
Vines & Villages Tour
I’ve lost count of the number of wine tours I’ve done all over the world. I did the Signagi wine tour and it was without doubt the best wine tour I’ve done. Relative to other wine tours from Tbilisi it was an expensive tour but by the time we got back to Tbilisi we understood why. It’s not really comparable to other wine tours as it includes a lot more. Vines & Villages Tour

From artistically presented modern Georgian cuisine with fine wines, to toasting to the ancestors of Georgia with Bacho the winemaker in his wine cellar while eating the khachapuri his wife prepared for us in their home kitchen. All in one day! Eat This! Tours more than delivered on the authenticity (and quantity + quality!) they promised. I am now recommending their tours to everyone I know going to Georgia. FAQ

Is this tour weather dependent?

No. The tour runs in all weathers but note that if it is heavy rain or snow, a visit to walk the walls in Signagi may not be much fun, so you can opt to spend more time elsewhere.

Level of physical activity? What to expect from this tour?

Taste Georgia’s 8,000 Year Wine History Surrounded By Vines & Mountains In The Kakheti Wine Region. Wine Tour to Signagi and surrounding areas and villages. Indulgent amounts of food!

  • You are ready to explore Georgian natural wine but don’t want to push your boundaries too far.
  • Low level of physical activity. We mainly hang out at wineries and visit a few essential historic sites.
  • Fast-paced trip packing lots of wine, fun, and activities into 1 day. For a more relaxing trip, we suggest staying overnight in wine country (2 day trips)
  • More food and wine than you are expecting! We are not a typical generic wine tour. Prepare to indulge.

What currency do I need to bring?

The only currency accepted by vendors for buying wine/gifts etc. to take home, is the national currency GEL. You can get this from any ATM and your driver will be happy to stop at one.

Purchase of our tours is normally in GEL based on the current exchange rate for the USD pricing of the tours. We’ll advise you of the exchange rate by email shortly before the tour date.

If I book at full price then the van fills up, will I get a rebate? And when?

The price listed on the booking form is the absolute maximum you will pay. Because we use dynamic pricing, the per-person cost drops for everyone as more travelers book onto the tour.

A minimum of 4 adults is required for the shared group tour to run. You can absolutely still book if your party is smaller (2 or 3 adults); the price simply adjusts to cover operational costs until more guests join the group.

If you book at the smaller-group rate and the tour later fills up, we automatically refund you the difference. We process these refunds on the morning of the tour to ensure an accurate final headcount that accounts for any last-minute sign-ups or no-shows. We will normally reach out the day before to confirm your final price if it has dropped since your initial booking.

Please note that private tour pricing varies. To see exact rates for private or customized groups, please use the price calculator via the “Book Now” button.

How are your tours priced?

The core difference between our tours and standard cheap trips comes down to where we take you. Even with a group size of up to 15 people, we completely bypass the mass-tourism factories and restaurants that rely on tour-bus kickbacks. Instead, we use our size to gain access to independent, high-quality family venues. Your booking is entirely all-inclusive, covering extensive wine tastings and real meals rather than leaving you with hidden costs and pay-as-you-go extras at budget venues.

The price you pay reflects the genuine cost of running a premium service—fairly compensating our guides, paying our independent partners what they are actually worth, and adding a 10% to 30% margin to cover marketing, operational staff, and a sustainable profit. This margin varies depending on the final group headcount and the specific tour type.

We choose to price transparently and fairly, ensuring our guides and vendors are paid above average so we can consistently work with the best people in the region.

What are the dietary options on this tour? Is vegetarian possible?

Yes, with advance notice. The standard inclusions contain pork or veal, dairy, walnuts and gluten.

Vegetarian options are available (and popular in Georgia!) at all main meal stops but must be requested at the time of booking, as family hosts prepare food specifically for the group.

Vegan options are possible but a bit more limited as Georgian cuisine can be dairy heavy. Khinkali, on some not all of our tours (check specific inclusions for this tour), has a vegetarian (cheese) or vegan (mushroom) filling option by advanced request.

Vegan + Gluten Free as a combined need of a single individual is essentially impossible to cater for as this would restrict you to essentially eating a few vegetable dishes our small home cooks are not able to cater for something this limited unfortunately.

If you are full celiac (not just gluten intolerant) we do not have the scope to guarantee protection against cross-contamination in small home kitchens. It’s better not to book the tour if you would have severe reactions to gluten if any of your food accidentally had gluten in. Regular gluten-free is absolutely no problem though you will miss out on Khinkali and Khachapuri, Georgia’s two national dishes, we can’t offer gluten-free alternatives to this though we can sometimes substitute Khachapuri with Mchadi which is a west Georgian corn bread

If you have a serious nut allergy that could result in anaphylactic shock or other serious effects please ensure you bring an epi pen with you on the tour please ensure you notify us at time of booking that your walnut allergy is that serious and please advise the guide at the start of your tour where the epipen is and any instructions they may need on using it – or who else accompanying you would be responsible for using it. Walnuts are one of the primary foodstuffs in Georgian cuisine. We absolutely can cater easily for those who cannot eat walnuts. There is plenty other food to eat. But small cross-contamination risk is sometimes possible and cannot be avoided so it is essential that you are prepared for this.

What is your cancellation policy?

Information on cancellation and refund policy is here: https://eatthistours.com/terms-conditions-of-service/

Can under 18's join this tour? What do I need to know?

Our shared group tours are strictly adults-only (18+). We enforce this for two simple reasons:

  • The Group Dynamic: Many guests choose our wine tours specifically for an adult-only environment where they can relax without worrying about censoring themselves around children.

  • An Unpredictable Environment: Wine flows freely on these day trips, and we cannot predict how other adult guests will behave after a few glasses. We want to avoid any situation where parents feel uncomfortable with the environment.

If you are traveling with anyone under 18, you must book a private tour. This ensures your family has your own private vehicle, though please note that because we have strict booking times with our partner wineries, the tour schedule itself remains fixed.

Please use the price calculator via the “Book Now” button to see exact private tour rates for your family group.

How do I book the Sighnaghi Vines & Views tour?

To join a shared tour, use the booking widget on this page and select the shared tour option. Enter your date, number of guests, and other details – your submission constitutes an actual booking in most cases, not an inquiry, so please make sure all details are accurate before confirming. If you only want to ask a question rather than book, please do not submit the booking widget – message us on WhatsApp instead.

For a private tour, select the private option in the booking widget. This means you will have your own vehicle and guide, though it does not automatically mean changes to the tour stops. You do have more flexibility with timing during the day, but meals and tastings are normally booked in advance – if you arrive early or late the wineries may not always be able to accommodate you.

How private is your private tour?

Private tours guarantee:

  • Exclusive transport: Your own private vehicle, entirely unshared.
  • Dedicated guide: A private guide focused solely on your group.
  • Itinerary flexibility: Freedom to make minor adjustments during the day. However, since wineries and meals are booked for fixed times, last-minute changes may not be accommodated, and you will still be responsible for full payment.
  • Personalised hosting: Individual attention at each location from the winemaker or host.
  • Private tables: Your own separate space or table for every meal and tasting. (Note: On rare occasions, winery cellar tours may be combined with another group due to winery operational limits beyond our control.)

Private tours do not guarantee:

  • Exclusive winery access: The winery remains open to the public. Unless you book a high-cost private event to close the entire facility, other guests may be on-site or in the same room, but your specific tasting and table will remain strictly private.
  • The winemaker as host at every stop: We aim for a “meet the winemaker” experience (often including a hosted meal) at a minimum of one winery per day trip, which succeeds on over 90% of our tours. However, we cannot guarantee winemaker availability in every instance due to potential illness or scheduling conflicts.

What is the difference between a Superior and a Signature tour?

Both options offer a premium, all-inclusive look at authentic Georgian food and wine culture. To use a simple hospitality analogy: our Superior tours are like booking a beautifully appointed, quality room at a top-tier boutique hotel, while our Signature tours are like upgrading to that hotel’s top-floor suite. (Please note this is just a metaphor for the level of inclusions – overnight accommodation is not included in our day trips!)

Here is how the two package levels break down:

  • Superior All-Inclusive Tours: This is our high-grade baseline package. Operating in comfortable, modern, air-conditioned minivans or minibuses with careful drivers, these small-group tours (maximum 15 guests) feature highly curated stops, expert guiding, and a substantial fully inclusive meal (with many routes including lunch and dinner). You get a complete, generous, and uncompromised premium experience. Focused on 1-day and half-day trips.
  • Signature All-Inclusive Tours: These are our landmark, deeply indulgent flagship itineraries (spanning 1 to 3 days). They command a higher price because they scale down the group size to a maximum of just 8 guests for a highly intimate atmosphere. They always include both lunch and dinner every day, a more indulgent selection of food and wine tastings, and focus on exclusive, direct hosting from the winemakers themselves.

Premium Authentic vs. “Luxury”
There is a distinct line between our Premium Authentic experiences and artificial luxury. A luxury approach in Georgia typically prioritises styled, highly modernised chateaus designed to project a polished “luxury identity,” paired with cost-prohibitive VIP vehicles that drive up prices without adding genuine substance. Our Premium Authentic approach focuses entirely on the Real Georgia – with occasionally just a taste of the more modern for balance. We pair modern, comfortable, air-conditioned transport, careful drivers, and elevated authentic food and wine. We focus on genuine hospitality rather than venues that just look fancy on the surface. Sitting down with a winemaker at their family table to hear them personally explain their wines feels far more premium authentic than any high-end, modern chateau restaurant meal.

If I book a Superior Tour, am I getting a basic or scaled-back experience?
Never basic! We do not offer low-cost, mass-market commercial tours. Every single itinerary we run is built from the ground up to be a top-tier package. With a Superior tour, you still get well-kept, comfortable transport, a dedicated expert guide, top-quality food, and exceptional authentic wines all day long. If a Signature tour is out of your budget, the Superior tour still delivers a generous, uncompromised premium experience – just a little shorter, less indulgent, and hence less expensive.

Tourism FAQs

What is a qvevri and why does it matter for Georgian wine?

A qvevri is a large clay vessel, buried underground, used to ferment and age wine – a method Georgia has practised for at least 8,000 years. On this tour you taste the same grape variety made both ways: one from a qvevri, one in modern stainless steel. The side-by-side comparison makes the difference immediately obvious – the qvevri wine is unfiltered, amber-coloured, and far more textured. UNESCO recognised the tradition as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

What is a Supra, and what will we actually do at the mini-Supra on the tour?

A Supra is the traditional Georgian feast – not just a meal, but a structured celebration led by a Tamada (toastmaster) who guides a series of heartfelt toasts covering God, peace, the departed, and the guests. On this tour the Supra is hosted at the family winery after the day's tastings. The Tamada leads traditional toasts, wine flows freely, and the food is home-made village fare – Mtsvadi (pork skewers grilled over dry grapevines) and fresh Khachapuri made by the family. Vegetarian alternatives are available with advance notice.

Why is Sighnaghi called the City of Love?

Sighnaghi earned the nickname through its romantic hilltop setting, cobbled streets, and a famous local legend – the Georgian painter Niko Pirosmani reportedly bought every flower in the city to lay at the doorstep of a French actress he had fallen in love with. Part of the legend was also its round-the-clock wedding registry, where couples could marry at any hour of the day or night – a genuinely unique feature that added to the romance. Since COVID this is no longer operating 24/7, so advance booking is recommended if you want to tie the knot while you are there.

What is Bodbe Monastery and why do we stop there?

Bodbe is one of Georgia's most significant historical and cultural sites – built over the tomb of Saint Nino, the woman who converted Georgia to Christianity in the 4th century. There is a working convent, a cathedral, and exceptionally peaceful gardens to walk. It is a short, calm stop that adds historical depth to a day otherwise mainly focused on wine, food, and exploring Sighnaghi.

What grape varieties will we taste, and what makes them special?

The main varieties you will encounter are Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, and potentially Mtsvane, Kisi, Khikhvi – or others – all indigenous Georgian grapes grown in the Iori Valley area. The side-by-side tasting of the same variety made in a qvevri versus modern stainless steel is the practical centrepiece of the first winery stop – it is the clearest way to understand what the clay vessel actually does to the flavour and texture of the wine. At least 7 wines are included across the tastings.

How far is Sighnaghi from Tbilisi?

Sighnaghi is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes from Tbilisi. The tour departs at 10:50am and the day runs until around 8pm, with all transport included in a modern air-conditioned vehicle. There is nothing to arrange independently – pickup and drop-off are both in central Tbilisi.

How much wine will we actually drink on this tour?

Quite a lot. The itinerary includes at least 7 wine types across the tastings – typically more – plus free-flowing artisan wine at the mini-supra, and chacha (Georgian grape spirit) is also part of the supra experience. Everything is all-inclusive across two winery and food stops, so you are eating and drinking throughout the day rather than on an empty stomach.

What is the difference between this tour and Vines & Villages?

Vines & Views runs 9 hours and visits two wineries – a commercial winery for the modern-vs-ancient side-by-side tasting with a lighter lunch, then a family winery for the mini-supra with free-flowing wine and home-cooked food. It is the more focused, relaxed option with a max of 15 guests. Vines & Villages runs 12 hours, visits three wineries, includes a multi-course elevated pairing lunch, tastes 11+ wines across multiple appellations, and has a maximum of 8 guests – it is the longer, more exclusive and comprehensive day.

What is Mtsvadi and what food will be served at the mini-supra?

Mtsvadi is pork skewers grilled over dry grapevines – the grapevine smoke gives the meat a distinctive flavour you will not replicate on a standard grill. Alongside it you will get fresh, warm Khachapuri (Georgian cheese bread) made in the family home kitchen. It is a home-cooked village spread in a relaxed non-restaurant setting next to the family wine cellar, moving outdoors when the weather allows.

Is the winemaker always there, and what is the supra experience like?

The winemaker acts as Tamada (toastmaster) on around 90% of tours. On the rare occasion they are not personally available, a close family member or the guide steps in. The supra takes place at the family's own winery – not a restaurant – and the wine you drink is their own artisan production. The toasts cover traditional themes including peace, the departed, and the guests, and you receive an explanation of the customs behind each one.
