Ah, spring in Georgia. The perfect blend of mild temperatures, blossoming flowers, and the ideal time to explore its historic towns and scenic landscapes. Whether you’re strolling through Tbilisi’s cobblestone streets, enjoying a warm afternoon wine tasting in Kakheti, or hiking some of the country’s scenic trails, the weather is just right for outdoor adventures. But how do you pack for Spring in Georgia?
Here’s your essential Georgia packing list for what to bring when visiting Georgia in spring—along with some travel-friendly gear suggestions that we love to make your trip as comfortable as possible.

Understanding Georgia’s Climate in Spring
Spring in Georgia is a delightful yet unpredictable season, offering a unique charm as nature comes to life. The climate typically features mild temperatures ranging from 12°C to 20°C (54°F to 68°F), making it comfortable for outdoor exploration.
However, Georgia’s spring weather can be fickle, with occasional rain showers and sudden temperature drops that may catch you off guard. This variability means that packing layers is essential—light jackets, breathable shirts, and a good rainproof option will keep you comfortable, no matter what the weather throws your way. Being prepared for these changes will ensure you can fully enjoy everything Georgia has to offer during this vibrant season.

Choosing the Right Luggage
Selecting the right luggage can make all the difference in your travel experience. Whether you’re navigating crowded airports or exploring Georgia’s sometime uneven/cracked or cobblestone streets, having the right bag is crucial.
Carry-On Luggage: Look for a lightweight and compact carry-on that’s easy to maneuver. Multiple compartments and pockets will help you stay organized, while durable, water-resistant materials ensure your belongings stay safe and dry. We have been Traveling with our Osprey and Tortuga carry on backpacks for years – we also loved our cabinzero (pictured).
Checked Luggage: For longer trips, a sturdy checked luggage is essential. Choose a bag that can withstand rough handling and is equipped with secure locks and zippers. Ensure it’s large enough to fit all your essentials without being cumbersome. The roads can be pretty rough on your suitcases so make sure you buy one with sturdy wheels.
Clothing for Mild Weather: Layer Like a Pro
It’s hard to predict what you’re gonna get with Spring in Georgia—one minute, it’s sunny and warm, and the next, it’s a bit chilly, especially in the evenings. That’s why layering is key. As I mentioned before Georgia’s weather in Spring can range from 15°C (59°F) during the day to 5°C (41°F) at night, and you’ll want to be prepared for it all.
Light Jacket: You’ll need something light to keep the evening chill at bay. A windbreaker or a light fleece jacket will do the job, but make sure it’s packable for easy storage. I personally always have a shawl on-hand that doesn’t weigh down my bag, and it’s perfect for the crisp evenings in Tbilisi when you’re grabbing dinner at a terrace restaurant overlooking the city.

Breathable Layers: Georgia’s daytime temperatures can get warm, especially in Tbilisi and the wine regions. A breathable shirt or light sweater paired with a light jacket should keep you comfortable. I like a casual, lightweight cotton shirt that I can throw on after a morning hike or vineyard stroll in Kakheti.
Comfortable Footwear: Georgia’s cities are full of steep hills and cobblestone streets, and uneven vineyard walks require comfortable, durable footwear. I always pack shoes that can handle both city exploration and countryside hikes—something versatile that won’t leave me limping after a long day. I personally love Teva’s hiking shoes but I’m also fond of Sketchers for a lightweight option when I’m doing more city exploration.
Accessories: Don’t forget the essentials—especially a lightweight scarf or shawl for those chillier evenings. Having this on hand is also handy for visiting religious sites that have dress codes. Also, sunglasses are a must; Georgia has plenty of sunshine, and you’ll want to protect your eyes while exploring.

Rain Gear: Be Ready for Spring Showers
While Georgia’s spring weather is generally mild, there’s always the chance of a rain shower—especially in the early part of the season. A bit of rain won’t spoil your trip, but it does mean you’ll want to be prepared.
Packable Rain Jacket: Georgia’s weather can be unpredictable, and when those showers hit, you don’t want to be caught out in the rain. I always pack a lightweight, breathable rain jacket that I can easily stash in my backpack or daypack. It’s great for keeping you dry during unexpected showers while still looking stylish on a wine tour.
Compact Travel Umbrella: I’m not the biggest fan of carrying around a full-sized umbrella, especially when traveling, but a small, compact one can be a real lifesaver when you’re out exploring. I’ve used a mini travel umbrella that fits perfectly in my bag and gets me through any sudden downpours and it’s also handy on super sunny days too. I call it my sun-brella!
Toiletries to Pack for Georgia
Packing the right toiletries can make your trip to Georgia more comfortable and hassle-free. Here’s a list of essentials to include in your vacation packing list:
- Toothbrush, Toothpaste, and Dental Floss: You can of course get all the major brands in Georgia, but if you have a brand that you prefer you should bring that with you.
- Deodorant, Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash: Once again all the major brands are available in Georgia but sometimes travel-sized versions can be perfect so that you don’t have to buy giant bottles that might not get used up during your trip.
- Contact Lenses and Solution: If you wear contacts, bring enough lenses and solution for the duration of your trip. If you need more the best place to go is Roniko and you can easily stock up on some more.
- Prescription Medication: Ensure you have enough medication for your trip, along with any necessary documentation. It is quite easy to get most medication over the counter in Georgia but knowing the local equivalent can be tricky – best to bring your own!
- First Aid Kit: A portable first aid kit with band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers can be invaluable. Blisters happen often – be prepared!
Wine Tour Essentials

Wine lovers, rejoice—spring in Georgia is a perfect time to visit the vineyards. While the weather is mild, you’ll still want to stay hydrated and comfortable as you enjoy the world-class wines and beautiful views. You’ll also want to make sure your wine tour experience is as seamless as possible so remember that many small wineries don’t accept credit cards – make sure you have enough local cash (GEL – Georgian Lari) on you to pay for any wine of souvenirs you wish to take with you.
Small Backpack or Daypack: A small daypack is perfect for carrying your essentials day to day – while you leave the majority of your gear back at your hotel. It’s especially useful for wine tours, where you might want to store your wallet, sunscreen, or camera and easily keep your hands free for important things like wine and cheese! I use one that’s lightweight and big enough to store my water bottle, shawl, and anything I pick up along the way.

Travel Documents and Money – Georgia Packing List
Before embarking on your Georgian adventure, make sure you have all the necessary travel documents and financial preparations in place.
Travel Documents:
- Valid Passport: Ensure it has at least six months’ validity.
- Visa: Check if you need a visa to enter Georgia.
- Travel Insurance: As of January 1st 2026 it is compulsory to have travel and accident insurance before arriving in Georgia. We recommend World Nomads or Safetywing.
- Driver’s License: If you plan to rent a car, bring your driver’s license. But be warned Georgian’s drive like maniacs and I would honestly leave the driving to someone that knows the roads.
- Credit Cards and Cash: Have a mix of credit cards and local currency (Georgian Lari) for convenience. You will find in the big cities like Tbilisi, and Batumi, you can mostly go cash free – but in smaller towns and villages cash is a must.
Money Tips:
- Local Currency: The Georgian Lari (GEL) is the local currency. You can easily get some at an ATM at the airport or ask your taxi driver (Use the BOLT app) to stop at an ATM on the way to your hotel. Best banks for withdrawals are Bank of Georgia or TBC.
- Credit Cards: Widely accepted in major cities and tourist areas.
- ATMs: Available in most cities and towns, making it easy to withdraw cash as needed.
Staying Safe and Healthy
Georgia is generally a safe destination, but it’s always wise to take precautions to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip.
Safety Tips:
- Mind Your Belongings: Be vigilant in crowded areas and tourist hotspots.
- Avoid Large Amounts of Cash: Use credit cards and get out cash as needed.
- Know The Local Currency Conversion: know what the conversion is from your currency to Georgian lari – some touts in the old town will try to rip you off when buying drinks or fruit etc. No! A juice does NOT cost $8 from a street vendor in Tbilisi
- Stay Clear of any protests. Georgia is known for having protests and it’s best to avoid of these areas at night. Generally in front of Parliament is the main place – but they can happen anywhere.
Health Tips:
- Food Safety: Georgian food is incredible but somehow people still manage to get food related illnesses while in Georgia (we honestly never have had a problem). 1. wash you hands before eating – lots of Georgian food is eaten with your hands. It’s often what’s on your hands not the food that makes you sick! 2. check the restaurants Google rating and latest reviews before you sit down we also have a list of our favourite traditional Georgian restaurants that you can check out.
- Stay Hydrated: Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout your travels. Water in Georgia is very good and completely drinkable.
- First Aid Kit: Pack a portable first aid kit with essentials like band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers.
By following these tips and being aware of your surroundings, you can enjoy a safe and healthy trip to Georgia.
