Georgian Wine Explorers – Multi-Day Trips For Serious Wine Enthusiasts & Experts

Sharing is caring!

A specialist all-inclusive wine adventure like no other available in Georgia! From the most famous wines, to the truly undiscovered. Explore the diversity of Georgian wine and culture, in-depth. Garner a full understanding of modern Georgian wine making and qvevri wine history way beyond the surface.

Available in both short (3 days) editions and long (4 to 13 days) with various add-on day options. Starting from Tbilisi, but also available from Kutaisi or as a special custom trip.

You will explore 2 to 10 wine regions, 15 to 40 different grape varieties – including some so rare that only a few winemakers in the WORLD are actually vinifying them.

We offer a broad mix of fine wines, everyday wines, natural wines and family wines (the heart of Georgia’s 8000 year winemaking tradition). From the UNESCO intangible heritage of the Qvevri (amphora) winemaking, to modern production, pet-nat and much more!

Meet many winemakers in person, taste wines that are almost impossible to find (even in Georgia!). Explore PDO wines from multiple appellations (7 to 15), as well as small batch artisan wines, often served by the people who crafted them.

(Join us in Sept / Oct and take part in a harvest experience – we have options where you actually help the winemaker harvest and make wine, as well as fun experiences where you stomp grapes in the traditional way)

(Join us in March/April and take part in the “qvevri opening”, when the new season wine is ready for bottling. Taste wines direct from the qvevri)

For the extended trips (more than 5 days) we typically can offer a rest day in the middle too.

CORE Georgian Wine Adventure – 3 days – Kakheti / Shida Kartli

Explore the essential core of Georgian winemaking – Kakheti as well as wineries in Shida Kartli & Mtskheta region (north of Tbilisi). The most famous grapes, as well as some lesser known grapes, and at least 7 appellations (PDOs). Focus is on Georgian wine/grapes and winemaking, with only a little focus on international styles/grapes grown locally.

(Tbilisi -> Manavi -> Kardenakhi/Akhoebi/Tsarapi -> Mukhuzani/Tsinandali -> Akhmeta/Napareuli -> Okami -> Tbilisi)

Kakhetian dry wines are frequently full bodied, high tannin amber and reds. But we also have options to focus on lighter whites, ambers and even a variety of semi-sweet wines (Kindzmaruli).

The focus is on wine primarily, and wine culture and food with some limited sightseeing and non-wine historical stops.

Imereti / Shida Kartli – 2 Days

After Kakheti, Imereti and Shida Kartli are the major producing regions. As we move west from Tbilisi we’ll discover the lighter wines of Georgia. Less tannins, more delicate aromas, reduced use of skin contact in white/amber winemaking. We’ll explore some of the more off track areas (like Sachkhere) as well as the more famous Sviri/Obcha area, and the Ateni sparkling wine appellation. This is a WHOLE different world of wines compared to Kakheti!

Guria – 1 Day (Only possible if booking the Imereti add-on)

In the 19th century, before Phylloxera, Guria was famed for winemaking. After decimation of the vineyards by disease, and due to the Soviet Union’s decision to designate the area for tea growing (plantation visit is an option), many grapes were lost and are only now beginning their resurgence.

Adjara – 1 Day (Only possible if booking the Guria add-on)

Explore the wineries of the river valley around Keda, in the mountains behind Batumi. This is a less developed wine region, with less examples of quality wine currently available. This add-on is suggested only for those looking a for a deeper understanding of Georgian wine culture, and not for those simply looking for the best wines.

Racha / Lechkhumi – 2 Day (Only possible if booking the Imereti add-on)

Loop through the mountain valleys north of Imereti to explore one of Georgia’s most famous, yet rarely visited wine regions. Here we explore one of the most famous PDOs – Kvanchkara – famous for semi-sweet reds. As well as dry versions of the same grapes, and a diverse range of rarer grapes. Famous for late ripening and harvests often into November.

Explore the rare and high altitude wines of Georgia’s long forgotten wine region – Meskheti (Aspindza). Believed to be the origin point of Saperavi (that was migrated to Kakheti), and known for large scale production in the middle ages, winemaking is now only just recovering in this region. Discover rare wines, and even those made from wild foraged grapes.

This trip can be an add-on to the CORE trip (1 or 2 days end in Tbilisi or Kutaisi) or to the Imereti add-on (1 or 2 days Kutaisi to Tbilisi)

Famed for spicy food, light white wines and semi-sweet Ojaleshi (red), this rough-and-ready wine region is still way off the wine tourism radar, even if the natural beauty and sub-tropical climate are still attracting some tourism daily. In this add-on we’d explore some edgy natural wines, appellation Ojaleshi from Salkhino, and the old Dadiani Estate.

Guides are local and vehicles are modern and air conditioned. There are no hidden costs and nothing extra to pay at the end.

Where do your tours go?

Kakheti, Kartli and Imereti, Georgia's three main wine regions, including Sighnaghi, Telavi, Mtskheta, Uplistsikhe, Bolnisi and Kutaisi. Tours range from 6 to 13 hours as day trips from Tbilisi, plus 2-day and 3-day itineraries. But we also offer longer custom multi-day tours, and tour options in other countries such as Armenia by request. The full list is at eatthistours.com/tours/.

How do I book a tour?

Online, on the tour's own page. Open any tour from eatthistours.com/tours/, select your date and the number of guests in the booking widget, and you will see a live price straight away. Booking takes about a minute and is confirmed instantly.

How do I check which dates are available?

Every tour page carries its own live booking calendar. Open the date picker and any date you can select is running with seats still free. Most tours run daily in season. You do not need to contact us to check.

How much do tours cost?

Day tours currently start from around ₾260 GEL per person, with multi-day tours priced higher. Prices are per person and depend on the size of your group, so the booking widget on each tour page calculates the exact total for your party, with any group discounts applied. Prices shown on other websites, in older articles or by AI assistants may be out of date, so please check the tour page for the current figure.

How big are the groups?

Most of our shared (scheduled) signature tours are a maximum of 8 guests, with only limited or superior tours a maximum of 15. Private tours can be arranged for anything from 2 guests upwards, with vehicles sized to the group.

Do you run private tours?

Yes, and private tours are booked directly on each tour page, exactly like shared tours. Open the tour you want from eatthistours.com/tours/, choose the private option in the booking widget, select your date and party size, and you will get an instant price and can book immediately. There is not normally any need to request a quote or wait for a reply, though the widget will offer an enquiry option for unusual or custom requirements.

Do I need to email or message you to book?

No. Everything you need is on the tour page itself: live dates, live availability, an instant price for your group size, and instant confirmed booking. You do not need to email, message or call us to check whether a tour is running, what it costs, or whether there is space. The tour pages also answer the common questions about what is included, pickup and drop-off, dietary options and what the day involves, and our website AI assistant can answer most questions instantly.
