This Month's Feature Winery
The profession of winemaker isn’t new in Dakishvili Family. Wine knowledge was collected by several generations and passed on to sons and grandsons.
The family comes from Pankisi Gorge area, where their ancestors started winegrowing culture more than 10 decades ago. Priest Simon Dakishvili, who was growing unique grape type “Qisturi”, started this culture.
Unfortunately, he became a victim of the Red Army repressions and was found dead in 1929. His grandson Temuri Dakishvili snr. graduated from one of the prestigious wine-making universities of the Soviet Union in Moscow. From 1960 to 1996 he worked as the chief winemaker at the Teliani winery.
This state owned winery was the only one in Georgia where high quality red wine was aged in oak barrels.
Gogi Dakishvili Jnr. (The current head of winemaking today in 2020) and his wife Ilona Dakishvili graduated from the Food processing Academy in Odessa, faculty of Enology and Viticulture.
Their eldest son, Temuri jnr. is also an Enologist, and consults several wine cellars in Georgia. Temuri married to Xatia Dakishvili, who is the marketing manager at Dakishvili Family Winery.
Wine Of The Month!
A micro producer based near Kvareli on the north east side of the Alazani valley in Kakheti. Producing only about 5000 bottles per year. The 2017 vintage won silver at the international qvevri wine competition 2019 - but it was the 2018's unique balance of acid and softer cherry chocolate that won my heart, making it our June Wine Club wine of the month.
Undertone of chocolate with zingy acid on top developing into Black cherry. 4 months in qvevri. 3 months on oak. Open the bottle 5 hours before, or decant in advance.
Akido is a micro producer based in Ikalto (north-east Kakheti), but the grapes are grown in both Ikalto on site and nearby in Akhmeta. They make about 6000 bottles per year in total and typically sell all those direct from their winery, and not at shops in Tbilisi
They host wine tastings at a preserved early 20th century cottage in Ikalto with views of the vines and the Caucasus mountains. It's one of our favourite places to take our tour guests to try refined Qvevri wines and partake in cooking classes with the family.
Our Wine Club Members Share Their Thoughts
"The wine club is awesome! Tommo has many connections with small, family wineries that aren’t even on the map and they have unique wines it’s almost impossible to find at the stores. The educational component is a nice touch as well. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to branch out from the standard wine clubs."

"My husband and I enjoyed learning about new wines and wine varietals we hadn’t been exposed to. Tommo is a friendly guide who introduced us directly to the enthusiastic winemakers themselves, making for a memorable and bespoke virtual wine tasting experience.”
Kim
"After months in quarantine drinking the same wines, the wine tasting event was fantastic. New wines to taste. Learning about them, and the wine history in Georgia. It was fabulous!”

Currently we can only accept payment by bank transfer to GEL - From a Georgian Bank, or from an international money transfer (Transferwise is a cheap service to do this, and connects directly to your bank account in the USA / UK).
Otherwise, you can deposit payment in cash at one of the hundreds of Bank of Georgia Pay-boxes around Tbilisi.
We select the most interesting wines to taste. Rather than selecting wines that cost the same price. The price reflects the total cost of the wines you'll be receiveing.
You can order whenever you like, but your order is not secured until we receive payment (or confirmation of payment with a screenshot). Your payment must be initiated to us by the cut off date listed at the top of this page
We buy all the wine in bulk, direct from the vineyards, and we pay them up-front for the wines. So we need your payments in order to carry out this process. Many wine shops expect the small independent vineyards to supply them with wine, and then pay them back months later once they sell the wines. Sometimes if those shops cannot pay their bills, or go bankrupt, the winemakers don't get paid - ever.
We don't consider it fair to put the risk onto small vineyards and would rather pay them in advance as, with your help, it is possible for us to do it this way.
You can pay in cash at any Bank Of Georgia Paybox – it must be BoG (Orange Box) and not any other bank.
1. Select the option to pay cash to a bank account. 2. Enter the bank account number and payee from above. 3. Select to pay an “individual” account. Your transfer should be pretty much instant.
Online payments with credit card in Georgia are not as easy to setup as they are in the USA/UK etc. We are working on being able to offer credit card payments in future. If you have no way to pay by bank transfer, or paybox (in cash at a paybox in Tbilisi) please contact tommo@eatthistours.com and we’ll try and organise a USD/EUR/GBP payment for you – extra fees apply.
I already made a payment but haven’t had a confirmation email that my order is complete? Our bank account cannot connect with email confirmation services, if your payment is in our account, then the order is finalised and we’ll contact you manually as soon as we can.
Typically, no, But if you are able to book your own delivery service, we can be available to hand your wines to your courier from our Tbilisi address. Please contact tommo@eatthistours.com to arrange this
Details of the event and wines may be subject to change due to everchanging emergency rules (Coronavirus).
If you decide you don’t want the wines or to attend and you do not meet the requirements for a full refund below, you can transfer your purchase credit to a friend, and ask them to re-order above and we'll deliver to them instead. Please contact us if you need to cancel and transfer your credit: tommo@eatthistours.com
